What
Symbolizes Friendship?

What symbolizes friendship is a common question
but one that is very difficult to answer because it really
isn't what symbolizes friendship but what someone does
that determines friendship.
There are so many
thing that symbolizes friendship that it is difficult to
know where to start. Some people use the term
“brother from another mother” (only because sister
doesn't rhyme with mother!) because a good friend can be
like family.
Some people say
that friends are like family you have chosen, and this
can be true. I know that there have been times in
my life that I probably couldn't have coped without a
friend or two.
So, what does
symbolise friendship? Well, perhaps it's the way
that you don't have to ask a friend for something or to
do something because they are thinking of you, they just
do it. Perhaps another thing symbolic of friendship
is knowing that if you are in a jam or a fix, you can
call them.
Only last week I
had to call ahead to the school and then call a friend
and ask her to pick my daughter up at home time because
my train had been cancelled.
I can't think of
anything more symbolic of a friendship than trusting my
daughters well being with someone.
That very same
person, less than a year ago lost a partner and stayed
with us for a week so she wasn't alone and to be honest
it was less trouble than having some family members over
and we felt very comfortable with her in the house.
So perhaps feeling comfortable with someone is another
thing that symbolizes friendship?
From my point of view there wasn't
even a question that she wouldn't stay with us. I
remember at the time she was upset and we had a spare room
so there was nothing else to say. She refused
several times and said the usual “I don't want to be any
trouble, it's okay... etc.” but I insisted because it just
seemed the right thing to do.
Looking back on it
now, I could use the word “unconditional” because I
didn't place any conditions on her staying with us, I did
it simply because it felt right.
So, what does
symbolize friendship? Well, so far we have the
feeling like someone is “family”, knowing you can rely on
the in a jam or a fix, being able to trust them and
unconditional love.
You know, that's
not a bad thing to have in your life is it? I feel
better already! Sometimes it's just great to know
that there is someone there, you don't necessarily have
to need someone for help to feel
comforted.
It certainly is a
cozy feeling to know that your friends are there and you
have someone you can talk to, share things with and rely
on, and remember, your friends feel the same way about
you!
So, what
symbolizes friendship? I think it is the things you
can't touch but touch you that symbolize
friendship.
